Our Bathroom Redo

I've never owned a home. I've only ever rented. So buying things like bathroom fixtures is sort of overwhelming. What kind do I buy? If the current spigot has two handles can I buy a single handled one? What do I do with plumber's putty?

Anyways -- I found this pretty fixture for a very pretty price at Lowe's. Also, because of our move they sent us a nice coupon for $10.00 off of a $50.00 purchase. This was an excellent trip to the hardware store.

I learned quickly thanks to my hubby's dad that plumbing isn't too hard, you just have to remember a few simple things and you're on your way. (O.k. the plumbing I was doing wasn't too hard. There are a lot of things I would never dream of doing myself, and certainly call a professional)

I spotted this shower curtain at Bed Bath and Beyond. I liked it well enough and it is nicer than the one I ended up buying. I opted for a slightly cheaper (look and price) from Menard's.

I know what you're thinking, man she cuts costs everywhere. Well -- not on the floors kids. I wanted our bathroom to have a similar feel to a hotel spa. I chose a smoke gray glass tile for the floor. Luckily, I did find it on clearance but it still cost me around $150.00 to tile the floor of a rather small space.
I thought I would share this heartbreaking story. When we went to pull up the hideous linoleum tile we found GORGEOUS hardwood floor. Soon we discovered that it was severely damaged and not worth trying to salvage. I thought for a few moments that I could return all of the tile and get my pennies back. Back to plan A.

Going Blue

The living room has gone blue. Presidential blue really. It's a fantastic room that will be the focus of family laughter and memories to come. It is also the room you enter into through the front door. This room is full of character already.

Snazzy New Chairs

So if possible -- Imagine the leopard fabric (above) on the style of chair below.
Hubby and I acquire two of these fabulously exotic creations from my cousin, who recently purchased a wine and spirits shop. They used to sit in the front of the store. We pulled up our Jeep during the Gallery Hop and carried those bad boys out of there.

So what to do? Do we leave them the leopard? Do we recover them? I stopped by Joann's to check out fabric. These are some of the patterns that caught my eye.

Happy Mother's Day

As a gift to hubby's Mom we stayed up till 3 am and finished painting, finished the trim, finished the closets, hung the blinds, hung the drapes and put the vintage golden velvet rocker and the Tiffany style lamp in the room.

It was a happy and beautifully designed Mother's Day.

Attack.

I thought this photo of the hubby pretending to attack his Mom was too hilarious.

Workin' on the Master Bedroom

We're quite lucky to have so much help.
It's like they love us or something...weird.

Nan came over to help paint and clean and build and sort and move....

Chris came over to help us cut things and lift things and drink things.

Remember that closet that was there on the left? It looked just like that one there on the right. We tore right through that son of a gun and connected it with the laundry room. It will eventually be a hallway to the master bath.

Cap City Marathon

I'm so proud of my husband.

He's been training to run his first half-marathon.

He ran in the Capital City Half Marathon.

It was a wonderful break from demo and remodeling.

It was rainy, but so wonderful.

Congrats handsome.

52 Get's Gussied Up

We bought 52 some special gifts.

This one is for hubby's dad. It is a cast iron buck head door knocker. We fell in love with this item when we saw a similar one in Country Living magazine.

We also picked up some floating house numbers (brushed nickel) in this slick modern font. We got these pretty babies at the local Menard's for $5.00 a pop. Nice and cheap when you only have two numbers to worry about!
